Home Exercise Equipment
Some popular choices:
Treadmills
A treadmill is a popular piece of indoor sporting equipment used to allow for the motions of running or walking while staying in one place.
It is likely to be found in most commercial gyms. Its relatively
small footprint also makes it popular as a home exercise equipment.
It is suitable for cardio as well as weight loss and comes in
models to suit most budgets. The more expensive, heavy-duty versions are
motor-driven - simpler, lighter, cheaper models are passive, moving only when the walker pushes the belt with their feet, and operates just to resist the motion.
Features to take into consideration are: belt width, an incline setting, and a good warranty.
Elliptical Trainers
An elliptical trainer (also known as a cross trainer) is a stationary exercise machine used to simulate walking or running without causing excessive pressure to the joints, hence decreasing the risk of impact injuries.
The elliptical trainer has lately become more popular than treadmills. With their
low-impact workout routines it's easy to see why.
You control the intensity level and can easily adjust the levels of resistance. Like treadmills, elliptical trainers vary in price.
Stationary Bike
A stationary bicycle (also called an exercise bike) is a stationary bicycle used as exercise
equipment. It is a long time favorite in rehabilitation clinics because of the low-impact cardiovascular exercise it
provides - though its popularity in the home has wane somewhat
of late. An exercise bike allows you to perform safe, as well as
effective cardiovascular exercises. The low-impact movement involved in operating an exercise bike does not put much stress on your joints and does not involve sporadic motions that some other fitness equipment may require.
It is often cited as a good home machine for combating obesity.
You
could also get a folding model for easy storage and its
portability allows you to move it in front of your television -
allowing you to watch your favourite programme while you
exercise! Most models come with a built-in computer to monitor
your speed, heartbeat and the calories burnt.
Steppers
If you want something simple and functional for cardio work, a step machine may
suit you well. They are also great for your lower body.
Rowing machines
Rowing machines (also called rowers) simulate the body movements of using a rowing boat.
They exercise the triceps, biceps, deltoids, quads, and the entire back area. Although
mainly used by professional athletes, rowing machines have made their way in the home fitness equipment market recently and
are getting more and more popular. However, most rowing machines
have a larger footprint than say, an exercise bike.
Weights
Weights come in three main forms: machines, dumbbells and barbells. A dumbbell is a small bar with weights on either end, and is held in a single hand, a barbell on the other hand is a large bar with weights on both ends, and both hands are used to grip it.
Using a set of dumbbells (and barbells) is one of the oldest
(and still very popular) form of home fitness and exercise. Free weights are an inexpensive home fitness option that will quickly build muscle mass and get you in shape. For many people, free weights and a weight bench are the single best home exercise equipment option.
Weight
machines usually only have one path of motion, meaning that it
follows a direct path through a system of pullies and/or attachment to an immobile frame.
